Join the ITMP’s Book Club Discussion on Tuesday, August 27th!

Are you an avid reader? On the search for the next book? Or even looking for a way to pass the time? Then here is the answer for you! Join ITMP’s new book club, where every semester we meet to discuss a book written by an Indigenous author and featuring Indigenous topics.

The book for this term is “The Barren Grounds” by David A. Robertson, a Cree author. This book is the first in the Misewa Saga and tells the story of siblings Morgan and Eli, who, after being placed in a foster home and struggling with the change, discover a hidden portal to another world, Aski. Here, they meet Ochek, the lone hunter for a starving village, and together they learn of the traditional ways to survive while the land is threatened by winter’s cold grip. Will Morgan, Eli, and the friends they meet along the way be able to save the people of Aski before the land freezes over?

Join a discussion group facilitated by a few members of the ITMP Team on August 27th via Zoom from 7:00 - 8:00 pm, as we dive into the meanings behind this book, answer some questions, and figure out how much the world of Aski parallels our own. All ages are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts with a group of people their age. Groups and questions will be split up based on age: 12 and under, 13-17, and 18+. To RSVP for this event, please click here: https://www.zeffy.com/ticketing/5375749c-b871-4a9e-835d-bcd21d78b6c6 . There is no deadline for registration, but we strongly encourage everyone to finish the book so there are no spoilers!

Can’t make it to this one? No worries! There will be a new Book Club session in the Fall discussing a new book with new questions and theories. More information will follow in the fall - subscribe to our monthly newsletters to stay up to date!
