Indspire Awards applications close August 1st!

Updated: Jul 16, 2023

Hello students!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful summer and spending time on what you love best!

A quick reminder: the Indspire Building Brighter Futures scholarship summer deadline is fast approaching on August 1st, 2023 at 8:59pm PDT. It is open to all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students who are taking full or part time studies in college, university, skilled trades, apprenticeships, and technology programs. This is a bundled application, so there’s only one application, but it is for all of Indspire’s bursaries, scholarships, and awards during the Sept. 2023 - Aug. 2024 academic year (with a few exceptions). This is a lot less work for students, because you only need to apply once a year, but it also means it’s extra important that you apply! If you need some help applying, Indspire is holding a virtual Bursary and Scholarship Walk-through on Tues. July 18th and Wed. July 19th.

Here’s what to expect from one of our team members who has applied in the past:

  • Status and Non-Status students can apply, but if the student is Non-Status a parent’s Status card will be needed

  • Preference goes to students who volunteer in their community or school

  • You’ll be asked to provide proof of enrollment in your post-secondary program, information about your previous education (ex: what highschool you attended and when), basic financial information (such as the cost of tuition and whether you plan to work during the school year), and volunteer hours if applicable

  • There will be 5 written questions, each with a maximum of 100 words. Topics may include your plans after finishing post-secondary education, plans for beginning or continuing volunteer work in your community, and similar themes.

It’s a great opportunity, so make sure to apply before August 1st, 11:59pm EST (8:59pm PDT for our BC students!) if this funding is a good fit for you.

You can also check out these scholarships with upcoming deadlines:

Note: These scholarships are not included in the Brighter Futures bundle, but their details and description can be found at the bottom of the Building Brighter Futures page.

Open to Indigenous students starting a four year post-secondary program in Canada for full-time studies in September. Students must have a home Indigenous community in the Northwest territories, Yukon, or Nunavut, be First Nations (status and non-status), Inuit and/or Métis, and be in their final year of a Canadian high school. Students must also have a valid Social Insurance Number.

Deadline: August 1, 2023.

Open to all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have been out of school for one year or more, who have since decided to return to an educational system, and who have now been back at school for at least one year.

Deadline: August 31, 2023.
